Here we explain what combination skin is and what you should pay attention to when choosing treatments to apply to this type of skin.
How Do I Know If I Have Combination Skin?
Combination skin can be recognized by the fact that it has oily areas AND dry areas:
- The fatty areas are mainly located on the T-zone around the nose, forehead and chin,
- While the cheeks tend to be rather dry.
Combination skin has different needs depending on the area (oily or dry), and it is only sometimes possible to find the right treatment. Indeed, even if the latter must help to rebalance the skin, it must not “treat it excessively”. Here are some considerations to keep in mind when choosing different types of products for your beauty routine:
Cleaning
The most important rule he must respect: is not to be “too aggressive”. Indeed, a very aggressive cleansing product might remove excess sebum from the T-zone, but it would especially strongly irritate dry skin areas.
So look for a good cleanser that removes excess oil, makeup residue, and dirt but is still gentle. It will therefore be ideal for combination skin, as it will not excessively irritate dry skin areas.
There are also cleansing treatments that moisturize the skin (thanks to the presence of hyaluronic acid, for example). You should consider using such a product if you suffer from extremely dry skin patches.
Toning lotion
A good facial toner restores the pH value of the skin. It should also hydrate the skin and make it look smoother and more even.
Serum
A serum is beneficial for very dry skin areas, as it will have an intense moisturizing action on these areas, in addition to reinforcing the moisturizer that will be applied afterwards.
Moisturizer
For combination skin, it is important to choose a moisturizer with a light consistency which rehydrates the skin sufficiently (but not too generously) – that is, just the right amount. The skin always needs to be hydrated, even oily skin areas. But in the beginning, it is necessary to avoid overdoing it. Later, you can always try other treatments, offering different degrees of rehydration. The cream must also protect the skin from external aggressions.
Face oil can also be used as a supplement in very dry areas. More on this is below.
Face-Oil
Since the main component of face oil is “oily”, it is therefore not suitable for areas of oily skin. However, it is ideal for dry areas of the face. Therefore, you can use face oil only on these areas and massage it gently. It is good to choose an oil of light consistency.
Conclusion
Now you know if you have combination skin or not. Will these general tips help you? Perhaps. Indeed, each person is different, and their skin has its own needs. What may be true for some may have the opposite effect on others. The solution? Research, seek advice and experiment until you find the right product for your skin. It just takes a little patience…
